Meet Monica Duran
A grassroots activist who took on powerful developers and won. A local public servant on the Wheat Ridge City Council protecting what makes Jeffco special. A community leader and progressive Democrat who will fight for Jeffco in the Colorado State House. Monica Duran is the kind of grassroots leader we need as the next state representative for District 24.
Monica Duran currently serves on the Wheat Ridge City Council, and previously served as a Director of the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection Board. Monica’s community experience also includes serving as a board member for the Jefferson Center for Mental Health, the Wheat Ridge Planning Commission, the West Metro Veteran Resource Network, as well as the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival board. She is also a member of the Jefferson County Latino Initiative.
In 2015, Monica was a leader of the campaign for Wheat Ridge Issue 300, a grassroots uprising of citizens pushing back against out-of-control development that was threatening our local quality of life.
In addition to her public service, Monica has been a dedicated Democratic volunteer. She has volunteered for the Jefferson County Democratic Latino Initiative (JDLI), served as a delegate to numerous assemblies, is a member of the HD-24 Democrats, and has stepped up at the precinct level as a Democratic PCP.
At a time when victims of abuse and at-risk children either suffer in silence or slip through the cracks, Monica will be champion of society’s most vulnerable. As a survivor of domestic abuse herself, she will lead the way in the legislature to create more pathways for victims to escape abusive relationships.
Married for over thirty years and with two grown sons, she has worked for over three decades in the dental industry, and presently works for a dental office right here in Jeffco. Monica knows firsthand how difficult it can be to get by during times of economic security, and is working to keep Jeffco a place where regular families can still afford to live. Because local public schools made sure her kids got the education they needed, Monica will fight to protect our neighborhood schools, so every Jeffco family knows that their kids will get a chance to get the education they need to succeed.
As our state representative, Monica Duran will be a champion for Colorado working families – standing up to big corporate special interests trying to take over the Statehouse, helping to level the playing field for people working to feed their families. As a working mom, local progressive activist, Democratic leader and elected public servant, Monica understands the challenges facing working Coloradans and their families, and will dedicate her service to fighting for our values in the Colorado State House.
